NOTE: Please read carefully the guide and requirements provided before completing and submitting your application for visa.

Types of Visas issued by this Consulate General are:

  Diplomatic/Official;     Business;    Tourist;     Transit and       Studentís visas.

(a) Application form must be completed in duplicate
(i.e. 2 copies) and in capital letters. (Tip: You can fill in the form online before printing it.)

(b) Passport must be valid for at least
(6) six months to expiration.

(c) Two (2) recent passport-sized photographs of the applicant (taken not more than six months prior to application) and showing full face of applicant, without hat, cap and sun glasses.

(d) Present a Photocopy of your round trip ticket
OR Travel Itinerary.

Copy of U.S. Permanent Residence Card, Student ID Card or a valid U.S. Work Visa.

(f) Minors and children under the age of 18 travelling to Ghana need written
parental authorization including copies of parents' passports and Residence Permit and a photocopy of child's Birth Certificate.

(g) Applicants, who may have to mail their applications to the Consulate, must provide a
Post Office Express Mail Stamp, for return postage.

(h) Yellow Fever Vaccination: In accordance with international health regulations, all persons entering Ghana are required to have a valid certificate of Immunization against Yellow Fever. Present a copy with your application

In addition to original passport, all applicants are required to attach a photocopy of the bio-data page of their passports to completed forms.

Official/Business Visas

Attestation Letter from the Employer in the United States.
Invitation letters from their hosts/sponsors and evidence of means of their sustenance while in the country. If staying in a hotel, please provide a signed hotel confirmation.

Studentsí Visas

Students going to study in Ghana are required to produce admission letters from the Institution or University including dates of enrolment - Copy of student card.


Applicants must provide letters of Employment from the Employer in Ghana.

Voluntary Work/Private Visits/Tourist Visas

Invitation letter from their hosts/hostesses in Ghana must be addressed to the Consul General including full Residential address and telephone number OR Attestation from Hotel duly signed by an accredited staff, confirming their reservation (Note: We do not accept unsigned email communication). Photocopy of host's/hostess' passport or other photo ID must also be provided.

Foreign residents in Ghana: Please provide a copy of passport (data page) and copy of resident permit.

Foreigners married to Ghanaians need to bring
letters from their spouses, including copies of their valid Ghanaian passports as well as United States Permanent Residence card.
When an application for a visa is turned down, the visa-issuing officer is not obliged to offer any explanation.  An applicant may however re-apply for a review.   

Visa Fees
Money order, Cashierís check or certified bank checks made payable to:
The Mission of Ghana.

Personal and company checks are not acceptable.  NO Cash payments accepted after January 31, 2014.

Single Entry Visa  - $60.00                        Multiple Entry Visa  - $100.00


At the request of an applicant, an additional $100.00 shall be paid for multiple expedited/emergency or $40 for single expedited service within 48 hours.

Note: If mailed, a visa might take longer than twenty-four (24) hours to reach an applicant.

Visa application fees are non-refundable.

Consular Hours

The Consular Section opens from Monday through Thursday

Applications are received between the hours of 10:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m. only.
Applicants for 48 hours expedited visas should submit their application by 12:00 noon.

Pick-up of issued visas is between 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. only!

Visas will only be issued when all the above requirements have been fully satisfied. At least three (3) business days (excluding day of submission) is required for the processing of visas. Applicants are, therefore, required to deposit their passports, together with the completed visa application forms, with the supporting documents well ahead of the time of proposed date of travel, in order to avoid possible delays.

- In exceptional cases, certain applications shall be referred to Ghana for prior approval. In such cases, the applications may take much longer than the usual processing time.

Incomplete Applications

Applications submitted with inadequate information/requirements will not be accepted.
